First “baby” pictures

I think pregnant woman are just gorgeous – they have that glow, those beautiful curves and the pretty expectations of things to come. I’ll be posting a few maternity shots in the next several months as I test out my skills…on myself. I’m aiming for a soft focus and glowing light. I’ll do several in black and white a few in color, like the one below. The shot below is 18 weeks pregnant.

Photo Finalist for Love Contest

A few months ago I entered this photo into a contest about love and I was a finalist (and got an American Express gift card!). The company sponsoring the contest was actually a life insurance company and they were trying to get people to send in their photos that expressed love somehow since, hey, why else do we buy life insurance…..which reminds me, I really have to get on that.

Anyway, here’s the photo that was a finalist and it was included in this slideshow that you can see here: http://www.lifehappens.org/lovecontest.

My caption was expressing the thought that in the hustle and bustle of Times Square, love was right in front of all these people who were just blowing by. So look out for love in the midst of your busy life – don’t miss it.

Canadian Adventure!

For the first time I got to travel out of the country specifically to take photos of an event. This one was ultra-special – Isla is the most beautiful little girl who had me wrapped about her finger from the moment I laid eyes on her. I went up to the Toronto area for her Blessing and got to hang out with her amazing parents, grandparents and great-grandmother.

Isla was just learning to crawl and had already mastered the art of waving and clapping, which was just too cute. And her laugh, oh her laugh, was to die for. She has the cutest little giggle and is probably one of the happiest little babies I’ve ever seen (probably because her mom is just so cool and calm, who is also a photographer by the way).

I just wanted to wish a very Happy Father’s Day to all dads out there – even if its a little late! Here are a few of my favorite photos I’ve taken of dads with their kids. I think the love between a father and his child is absolutely one of the most beautiful things to witness and capture on film.

In the Park with Connor

Little Connor and his parents helped me break in my new Canon Rebel T1i on Saturday at a beautiful park in Sterling, Virginia. Connor is 8-months-old and is completely adorable. He is such a great little baby and was a pleasure to photograph.

Teens & Soccer

I played sports all throughout my childhood and into high school so its a lot of fun for me to shoot any kind of sporting games. Sports and kids are my favorite subjects to photograph and I got to combine the two last weekend shooting a teen soccer league in Fairfax, Virginia. The kids were a lot of fun to watch and were very talented.

There were a few games so I broke the photos up into sets here. Below are a few of my favorites.

Mom and Athan

I’m so far behind on my posts here but I wanted to get this one up because its so cute. I hung out a couple weekends ago with Maria and her son, Athan, who is a little over two years old. It was kind of an impromptu photo shoot while he was drawing with chalk on the driveway, helping his dad in the yard and playing at the park. Here’s a few of my most favorite shots (more are here):

Boston Marathon 2010

I got to head up to Boston last week to watch my younger brother run in the famed marathon. It was quite the event and seemed like all of Boston came out to watch the runners compete in the 26.2 mile race. I got to see not only my brother run but also was able to see the elite racers in the front of the pack, including American Ryan Hall, who finished 3rd overall. His stride was unreal and it was cool to hear everyone cheer him on.

The entire atmosphere was an experience unto itself – the energy was high, the crowd was encouraging and my brother totally rocked out the race. Congrats to all the runners!

Sneak Peek: Dave & Angela Engagement Photo Shoot

Dave and Angela are both CPAs so this time of year is the busiest, forcing them to work most weekends. But they wanted to do the shoot with the famed Washington, DC cherry blossoms as the backdrop so we shot at sunrise during peak bloom, which was amazing. Dave proposed to Angela when they were watching the sunrise so it was a perfect setup.

Spring is Here!

This weekend kicked off the annual Cherry Blossom Festival here in Washington, DC. A million people will descend upon the city in the next two weeks to check out our famed cherry blossoms. But I think the Kite Festival is one of the coolest things about this time of year. Tons of people come down to the National Mall and run around and fly their kites. It’s a lot of fun to watch.
